EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT is one of the Community Chest of the Eastern Cape main focus areas. We believe that the foundation stage of every child’s life is highly important. According to Aflatoun International “Early childhood is the critical time for positive intervention. Children development during this stage is strongly affected by their environment, and that effect continues to exert a strong influence on the rest of their lives. This is for this reason why the Community Chest intervene with various ECD’s in our vulnerable communities to assist them with life skills programmes and educational materials. Our ECD’s are affected with the lockdown. According to Children rights activist, Robyn Wolfson Vorster of Daily Maverick the three biggest challenges children face in our disadvantaged communities are: “malnourishment, education and our seeming inability to protect them from harm. Now, during lockdown, the extent of these problems has been exacerbated.
Adding to this, is the psychological impact of the current crisis on the children. The trauma they experience and the lack of education is worrying.
Community Chest are supporting our ECD’s not only with essential packs but also food parcels to the families. We would like to continue to contribute to their everyday well being and education.
Please support us by donating R50.00 towards educational material and a food pack for children at home.
